 Carmel Cinema reflects Carmel Entertainment’s recognition of the increasing demand for quality visual media content by churches, schools and other organizations. According to Barna Research, in 2005, some 62% of Protestant churches (approximately 150,000 churches) employed large-screen video projection systems. According to the MPAA (2006), there are only 38,688 theater screens in the U.S. Thus, church showings of films can potentially reach far more screens and audiences than theaters for a fraction of the traditional marketing costs.
In August 2007, Carmel Entertainment launched Carmel Cinema as its non-theatrical exhibition division to offer redemptive, values-based, entertaining feature films, and compelling, enlightening, faith-based documentaries to churches, schools, ministries and other organizations for licensed public showings. In addition to licensing films for public exhibition, Carmel Cinema’s “Movie Event Program” offers an ancillary DVD marketing and distribution channel to distributors and producers, and an economic incentive and opportunity to “exhibitors” to purchase DVDs of exhibited films in bulk quantities at wholesale pricing. The exhibitors may sell the DVDs to their audiences and others to raise funds, or they may distribute them at no cost to recipients for ministry purposes.
